Welcome to MAES/MVA Summer School 2024
Summer school will run in two sessions: (Classes run from 8:00am-noon, Monday-Thursday)
Session I - June 10th - June 27th
Session II - July 8th - July 25th
Class Descriptions
Session I Classes (June 10 - June 27)
8:00-12:00 Classes:
Little Explorers (4K) - Our 4K friends will continue their love for learning through exploration, crafts, and stories all while continuing our early literacy and math skills. Class Length: 4 hours
Staying Alive (5K-1st) - Students will learn all the different aspects and fun ways to stay healthy and active. Students will read stories, make snacks, make crafts and study how their amazing bodies work. Class Length: 4 hours
The Mighty Jungle (2nd-3rd) -Students will get to study many of our amazing jungle creatures. They will watch videos, read stories and learn how to keep the jungle and creatures in them healthy. Class Length: 4 hours
*NEW COURSE* Art Academy (4th - 8th, class located at the High School) - Come explore fun and exciting art making in the high school art room! This class will be playing with lots of materials both inside and outdoors. If you enjoy making sculptures and drawing you will love this class! Class Length: 4 hours
2 Hour Classes: Classes will run from 8:00-10:00 and 10:00-12:00. Please select your top two choices, and you will be notified when you will have each class.
DNR Safety Course(s) (4th-8th) - These courses are taught by one of our DNR certified safety instructors and will allow students to receive their DNR certificates in the following areas: Boaters Safety (June 10th - June 13th), ATV/UTV Safety (June 17th - June 20th), and Snowmobile Safety (June 24th - June 27th). Students MUST be present for ALL days and pass the course in order to be certified. Each class will last one week. Each class is $10, and separate checks needed to be written for each session. Class Length: 2 hours *Students not planning on attending all three courses should annotate below and also select another class for this time.
Books, Movies, & Popcorn (4th-8th) - Students will read a good book during the week and will conclude with popcorn and the movie that matches the book. During the week, the students will read both indoors and outdoors, participate in fun discussions and activities about the book, and compare the book to the movie. Class Length: 2 hours
Games Galore (4th-8th)- In this class you will learn to play a variety of board games, dice games, and card games that teaches the use of math, logic, social skills, and reading. Class Length: 2 hours
Lego Masters (4th-8th) - Problem solving and teamwork skills will be put into practice as students work with Legos, using imagination and creativity to build their own creations. Class Length: 2 hours
Get Outdoors (4th - 8th) -Escape the indoors this summer! Get Outdoors is a fun, hands-on class where you'll explore nature through games, gardening, orienteering, and exciting surprises! Class Length: 2 hours
Passport Travels (4th-8th) - Join us as we travel around Europe as we visit a new country each day. On our journey, we will explore the history, sites, animals, and culture of that country through books, food, crafts, music, and games. Class Length: 2 hours
Sports of all Sorts: (4th-8th) - Students will play a variety of sports games to stay active and healthy. Join us for skill development and games that all students will enjoy. Games will be tailored to students, but will include base games, basketball, football, and many other games to teach teamwork and have fun! Class Length: 2 hours
STEM - Exploring Science: (4th-6th ONLY) - Students will work on building problem-solving skills, creativity, collaboration, and other life skills through hands-on activities. These activities will focus on science, technology, engineering, and math in order to promote higher level thinking. Class Length: 2 hours
1 Hour Athletic Classes (4th-8th grade):The following classes will be offered at the high school. If a student does NOT want to attend one of the Athletic Classes, we would like them to join us for, RAIDER RECHARGE. This class will be run from 8:00 - 12:00 as a “home room,” for students to use between athletic classes where they will learn social skills, character building, and participate in lifelong learning activities.
Track and Field (8:00-9:00) - Students will work with our Varsity track coaches, learning the fundamentals of track and field. Students will also compete in daily competitions and races.
Fitness and Fun with Football (9:00 - 10:00) - Students will learn the basics and fundamentals of football through a variety of games and activities.
Basketball Skills - Girls (10:00 - 11:00) - This class is designed as a skills session class with our Varsity girls basketball coaches.
Basketball Skills - Boys (10:00 - 11:00) - This class is designed as a skills session class with our Varsity boys basketball coaches.
Strength and Conditioning (11:00-12:00) - Students will learn the basics of strength training while getting familiar with common lifts and equipment used in the Wellness Center. Students will work directly with our very own Strength and Conditioning Coach!
Session II Classes (July 8 - July 25)

Having a Hay Day (5K-1st) - This class will use books, writing and math to explore different farm animals and jobs around the farm. Students will also complete crafts and activities to learn all about life on the farm. Class Length: 4 hours
Creepy Crawlies (2nd-3rd) - Students will get to study many of our amazing crawling creatures. They will watch videos, read stories and interact with our local creepy crawlies. Class Length: 4 hours
1-2 Hour Athletic Classes (4th-8th grade):The following classes will be offered at the high school. Swimming (Ages 6 and up) - BOTH SESSIONS ARE FULL!
**Important Notes:
*Any after summer school activities/camps etc. that are not directly offered through our summer school program are parent/guardian responsibilities. If an activity runs after 12:00, with the exception of swimming, parents/guardians are responsible for coordinating transportation and childcare until the activity begins.
*Drop-off: Doors will open in the morning at 7:40 AM. Weather permitting, students will start the day outside with a morning recess. There will be no supervision on the playground until 7:40, so please do NOT drop off students who are not signed up for Before Care before that time.
*First day: Students will be directed to the gym to meet their first session teacher.
*Pick-up: Pick-up will be in the North parking lot and will run the same way it has all school year. Students will be dismissed at 11:58 to start heading to the lot with a staff member to wait for their parent/guardian.
*Classes will only be run if there is sufficient interest and staff to run a class. If a class listed ends up not being run, we will contact you and do our best to find a replacement class.
