MVA students and staff understand the value of standardized tests as a tool for measuring progress towards proficiency of ELA and math standards. Over the last several years, MVA students have outperformed their state level peers in reading and math. This data is showcased in the evidence and in greater detail in the data profile. Our students also track their individual growth in reading and math by analyzing their MAP data twice a year. Students use both measures to set goals for their academic progress and to also celebrate their academic growth.
However, measuring student mastery of knowledge and skills is more than a series of state assessment data points. Since becoming an EL Education school, our students have shown tremendous growth in their ability to demonstrate proficiency and deeper understanding, apply their learning, think critically, and communicate clearly. Complex and engaging expedition topics, purposeful fieldwork and authentic final products are the catalyst for student growth.
